KABUL: Taliban leadership in Afghanistan said that negotiations with Turkish and Qatar companies to operate the technical operations of five major airports in the country were still ongoing.
The Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation (MOTCA) said in a statement that the parties concerned discussed the legal issue of contracts, according to the report.
A technical team from Afghanistan recently visited Doha for talks, according to MOTCA, but there was no final decision taken.
On Thursday, Ministry spokesman Imamuddin Ahmadi said, “The MOTCA technical team still negotiated about submitting the technical activities of Kabul airport to the technical team from Turkey and Qatar.”
Regular commercial flights have been banned in Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of the country in August last year.
With the turnover of airports in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Mazar, and Mazar to international companies, hopes of returning this flight has grown.
