New Delhi: There are those who grow calls from Indian students who are trapped on the Ukrainian-Polish border claiming that they are ‘managed’ and ‘not treated’ by Ukrainian security personnel allegedly because India did not condemn Russian invasion at the Russian Security Council at the United Nations.
Many of these students, who are trapped for more than 72 hours in cold frozen conditions, alleged that they were kicked, beaten, dragged and some even had their telephone from them. According to Sandeep Kaur, Ukraine previously allowed several students to cross but then stopped them entering Poland.
I was waiting with my brother and some of our friends in the group. First, officials asked us to stand in line and we did it. Then they asked the girls to make separate lines … they then let me cross the border while my brother waited on the other side. When my brother said that he was also in the queue, they dragged and beat him with a stick, “Kaur notifies this correspondent.
The student made that there was nothing from the Indian Embassy to coordinate with Ukrainian authorities on the border. “After we crossed the Polish border, we met with Indian embassy officials, but were not on the side of Ukraine. Boys on the Ukrainian side have been badly released. Now my brother returned to his college hostel along with his friends because the situation worsened.”
When contacted regarding the incident, MEA spokesman Arinindam Bagchi refused to comment. According to Monisha Kalurgi, a student of Lviv National Medical University, several friends returned from the Polish border. Ukrainian personnel are not happy that India likes Russia, she claims, adding that this is the reason for poor care.
Other students told this newspaper, “We went at 4 am from Ternopil. The Indian Embassy has notified that the Polish border opens and we can leave, but on the border we are stopped by the Ukrainian forces.” “The temperature is three degrees. People fall Sickness. When we called the Poland embassy, they asked us to call the Kiev Embassy who told us to coordinate with the Poland embassy, ”said another student.
