Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan pushes violence; rift within coalition government
The Pakistani government held a series of secret peace talks with the Pakistani-E-E-E-Taliban Anti-Pakistani rebel group (TTP) in June after months of intense battle. Head of TTP Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, who has led a peace talks to the group, revealed that former Director General of Content and Commander of the Peshawar Corps (Gen) Faiz Hamed had represented the Shehbaz Sharif government. TTP also expressed unlimited ceasefire with the Pakistani government.
However, victims of security and terrorist personnel show that the conversation has failed, without final conclusions, and there is a strong possibility that, if the talks fail, violence will increase further.
Data shows that in June itself, Pakistan recorded 102 deaths related to terrorism compared to 66 in May, a sharp leap of 54.54 percent. More importantly, victims of security personnel almost doubled – from 26 to 51 – and terrorist death recorded an increase of more than double – from 13 to 31. However, the death of civilians fell from May 27 to 20 in June.
