The Pakistani government held a series of secret peace talks with the Pakistani-E-E-E-Taliban Anti-Pakistani rebel group (TTP) in June after months of intense battle. Head of TTP Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, who has led a peace talks to the group, revealed that former Director General of Content and Commander of the Peshawar Corps (Gen) Faiz Hamed had represented the Shehbaz Sharif government. TTP also expressed unlimited ceasefire with the Pakistani government.
However, victims of security and terrorist personnel show that the conversation has failed, without final conclusions, and there is a strong possibility that, if the talks fail, violence will increase further.
Data shows that in June itself, Pakistan recorded 102 deaths related to terrorism compared to 66 in May, a sharp leap of 54.54 percent. More importantly, victims of security personnel almost doubled – from 26 to 51 – and terrorist death recorded an increase of more than double – from 13 to 31. However, the death of civilians fell from May 27 to 20 in June.
In addition, the cracks in the ruling alliance, the bitterness between Imran Khan Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaaf and the government, and the terrible economic situation was formed to further disrupt the system.
On June 10, the federal budget with PKR expenditure. 9.5 trillion is presented, where loan payments and debt service in PKR 3.9 trillion and PKR defense expenditure 1.53 trillion are the two largest components. Not satisfied with the provisions in the budget, the IMF demanded the elimination of all subsidies and plans for the 800 billion PKR surplus to move forward with the extended USD six billion IMF funding facilities. Meanwhile, the price of petroleum and electricity tariffs have been revised up to eliminate various subsidies, triggering the second order inflation, which has been in two digits in 13.5 percent.
Sharif traveled to Ankara in Turkey to improve economic relations, defense and bilateral trade, and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto visited the US and Iran to get their support and cooperation.
From 9 to 12 June, the Chief of Staff of the Army Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Beijing, China, to attend the Military Cooperation Committee meeting with Pakisatn-China and then traveled to Paris on June 13-17 to attend the Euro Defense Exhibition.
In an embarrassing for Pakistan, Canadian Parliament member Tom Kmiec accused that Bajwa General played an important role in bringing down two governments and soldiers under his command to pamper himself in human rights violations and supported various terrorist clothing.
TTP said there would be no dissolution or surrender by the group even if the peaceful discussion with the Pakistani government was successful. Mehsud emphasized that TTP would not resign from his request to reverse the merger of the tribal area given by Federal (FATA) with the neighboring province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Our demands are clear and especially the end of the Merger Fata (into KP) is our main request, which we cannot resign, “he said.
