Ri Sol Ju, Kim Jong Un’s wife, donned a pendant designed in the shape of a missile at the 75th anniversary celebration of the Korean People’s Army in Pyongyang on Tuesday. The silver necklace stole the limelight as it looked similar to North Korea’s largest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) – Hwasong-17 ICBM – as per a report in The Telegraph.
Kim opted for a black coat and fedora, while daughter Kim Ju Ae wore a black and white suit with a brooch for the function. Flanked by her husband, daughter and military chiefs, Sol Ju was photographed flaunting the ‘nuke necklace’ at the banquet table ahead of the mega military parade.
The North Korean dictator’s daughter, believed to be nine or 10 years old, was the centre of attention during the week’s military parades, sparking speculations of the nation’s potential future leader. Marking her fifth known public appearance, Ju Ae rubbed shoulders with senior officers amidst her father’s record show of military might.
State media has often called her the ‘beloved daughter’ while some experts believe that she is being used tactically to improve Kim’s ‘family man’ image. The Wednesday parade showcased the latest weapon units in Kim’s nuclear arsenal, including the real Hwasong-17 along with a supposedly brand new, solid-fuel ICBM, the report stated.
Ahead of the show of strength, rumours were rife about Kim’s health after he was ‘missing’ in public for more than a month. According to NK News, a South Korean news outlet, Kim had also skipped a politburo meeting for the third time.Meanwhile, South Korea’s foreign ministry on Thursday condemned North Korea for holding a massive military parade amidst a worsening food and economic crisis.
